C. Lebet: The Stradivarius Quartet N. PaganiniHardcover, 72pp.
Facsimile reproduction, transcription and English translation of the correspondence between Paris violin maker and dealer Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume and Achille Paganini (the son of Nicolo Paganini, the famous violin virtuoso), concerning the attempt to sell off the Stradivarius quartet of instruments which Achilles had inherited from his father. The book also features color photographs of the table, back and scroll (close-up) of each individual instrument, along with thorough descriptions made by Claude Lebet of each individual instrument in the quartet (the 1680 Paganini-Desaint violin, the 1727 Paganini-Salabue violin, the 1731 Paganini-Mendelssohn viola and the 1736 Paganini-Ladenburg cello). Although Vuillaume sold off the instruments separately, the quartet was reunited in the 20th century by New York violin maker Emil Herrmann.Complete text in French and English.
